FIRE DEPARTMENT

The Beverly Hills Fire Department is a combination paid and volunteer department that currently serves a general population of 2400 people that live and work in an 11 square mile radius. We have a current ISO rating of 7/9 which we strive to lower with each year.

EQUIPMENT & OPERATIONS:

The department currently has one pumper and one rescue vehicle. We are in the process of purchasing another pumper to replace the 1976 International, which was recently taken out of service. The department responds to approximately 20 calls per year involving emergency and non-emergency public assists.

The duties include: fire suppression, equipment testing and inspection, rescues, fire safety and many other types of public assists.

MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Must live in the City of Beverly Hills or reside within five miles
  • No convictions of any felony or arson
  • Must have a valid Texas Drivers License
  • Pass a department background
  • Experience or certification not required
  • Must attend meetings bi-weekly and participate in various community service programs

BURN INFORMATION:

A person shall not kindle or maintain or authorize to be kindled or maintained any open burning unless conducted and approved in accordance with Section 307 of the International Fire Code or strictly prohibited when burn bans are in effect. Any outdoor burning without proper permit may result in a citation being issued and the fire extinguished.

FIREWORKS:

Smoke Detector Application -- Free Smoke Alarm and Installations. This is for seniors, 62 and older and disabled citizens.

HOME SAFETY CHECKLIST:

  • Install smoke detectors in your home! Working smoke detectors should be located on each level- usually outside each sleeping area. Batteries should be replaced twice a year, usually in the spring when we set our clocks forward and once in the fall when we set our clocks back. Smoke detectors should be checked at least once a month to ensure that they are in proper working order.
  • There should be at least one ABC or ABCD fire extinguisher located in the kitchen in an easily accessible location.
  • Store matches and lighters out of the reach of children.
  • Remove plugs from overloaded outlets.
  • Do not place extension cords under rugs or carpets.
  • Keep fireplaces screened and cleaned regularly.
  • Keep heating equipment at least three feet away from any combustible material.
  • Never leave cooking food unattended.
  • Never use gasoline to start a fire.
  • Practice fire drills every six months.

    BE SAFE, HAVE A PLAN IN PLACE AND PRACTICE.
